Growing Up Pointed Whites
This page is dedicated to the growth and color development of pointed white English Angoras. Pointed Whites are a new journey for me, and I will be using this page to track their development. My primary focus here will be a sweet little doe named Airborne. She usually sits still for photos so I have been able to get good pictures of her on a regular basis.
Airborne
Airborne's story is unique. She is my miracle baby. After hours of being able to see that her mother was having contractions, yet no babies born, concern began to grow. We finally decided it was time to pull momma out and rub her belly. This action is known to stimulate contractions and aid with difficult birth. We decided to hold her upright so that gravity could could also assist. Momma laid on my husband's chest as I reached under her belly and rubbed. After a couple of minutes, she bit my husband! Very uncharacteristic of her, but easily forgiven, considering the circumstances. A few seconds later, a baby fell out! Luckily, I was watching closely, and was able to catch her mid air. This is how she got her name!
She was HUGE. She was cold, she was dry, and she was big. It was easy to see why momma was having difficulties. Amazingly, Airborne, momma, and the rest of the litter that soon arrived, were fine! There was a little bruising on Airborne's head, and we had to get her warmed up quickly, but she was okay!
This is why I call her my miracle baby! She beat the odds. Most stories about stuck kits don't end so pleasantly.

In the first picture, you can see how dark she was. This was from her being cold. That picture was taken within moments of her birth. The second picture was taken an hour later, after she warmed up. Some interesting observations we made were that, in addition to being huge, she was also born furred.
These pictures were taken at about 12 hours after birth. In the first, you can see Airbone in the top right corner. FAT BABY! On the left top, you can see her sister, Chocolate E Clair. In the second photo, you can see Airborne in my hand. The bruising to her head was noticeable in this one. The mark in her ear was simply Sharpie, not an injury. Just my way of keeping track of each baby :)
I skipped to day 6 here. Airborne is in the top of the picture, Chocolate E Clair (aka Clair) is in the bottom. Take a close look. It is here that you really notice a "dusty" appearance to Miss Airborne compared to Clair. The dusty appearance is caused from being chilled when she was born. She grew a band that was approximately 1 mm in thickness that was a rich, chocolate color. A few weeks later you could no longer find it. But, it is important to note that it was there. From this point on, we no longer worried about 'refreshing' the ear markings, as they now had their own uniqueness about them that would allow us to tell them apart in pictures.
1 week old! Airborne's points start to come in here. Clair was a little behind Airborne in color development, most likely because Airborne was chilled. |
First picture taken at 2 weeks. In order, Tagalong, Airborne, Clair and Cinnabun.
Second picture is Clair at 2.5 weeks, 3rd is Airborne at 2.5 weeks. You can see the foot color really developed on Airborne over those 3 days! And the ear color started developing on Clair.. and her nose- it really darkened here. A lot of changes occur here. Lots of fun!
